The 424 people who died on Minnesota roads in 2008 represent a 16 percent drop in fatalities from 2007 and the lowest mark since 1944, according to preliminary figures released by the state Department of Public Safety on Monday.
The Minnesota Department of Safety reported that for Halloween weekends between 2005 and 2007, seven of 17 traffic deaths were alcohol-related. There were 18 serious injuries and 1,543 DWI-related arrests.
