There was an amazing convergence of good will on the evening of March 3 at Clyde Iron Works. Somewhere around 1,500 people from all walks of life gathered to support Pam Bauman and her family in a benefit.
It’s my understanding another major employer in Duluth is laying-off several employees and sending their jobs to India. This employer would be just one of many American corporations to do this same thing, some while making record profits.
Kudos are in order for Duluth’s City Council, which passed the Minnesota Arms Spending Alternatives Project resolution. This most specifically promotes legislation to drastically reduce our bloated military budget, which has reached 59 cents of each dollar of discretionary spending at the federal level.
Even though it is terrible that 392 people have died since 2001 in Minnesota from methadone overdoses (“Methadone: ’60s treatment for drug addiction comes with deadly risks today,” Sept. 16), where is the outrage that 5,000 people each and every month die from tobacco in Minnesota?
