ST. PAUL — Legislation advancing in the Minnesota Senate would let cities and counties raise property tax levies without state interference, published notices in newspapers or annual hearings where taxpayers vent their frustrations.
The St. Louis County Board of Commissioners is expected to pass a final 2009 tax levy increase of 4.41 percent at Tuesday's board meeting in Duluth.
That levy hike is down a bit from the 4.88 percent the board set in September.
The majority of Duluth Area Chamber of Commerce members support the Duluth school district’s operational levy, at least according to results of an unscientific survey released by the organization Tuesday.
A group of former Duluth School Board members will formally declare their opposition to elements of the Duluth school district’s long-range facilities plan today at a news conference.
