Just two days after state engineers discovered structural problems with the pilings that hold up southbound Interstate 35 in downtown Duluth last week, the city cleared out the area underneath the highway near the Depot known as Graffiti Graveyard.
A portion of southbound Interstate 35 in Duluth closed since Monday for emergency repairs will remain shut down for three to four weeks, the Minnesota Department of Transportation announced this afternoon.
For Pat Huston, the problem with homeless camps near Interstate 35 in Duluth began in June. That’s when the operations engineer for the Minnesota Department of Transportation had to lead an effort to clear a homeless camp on interstate right of way across from the Fitger’s Brewery Complex on East Superior Street.
