Reverse mortgages have become increasingly popular nationwide. Last year the number of federally insured reverse mortgages grew 6.4 percent to 115,176 loans nationwide, according to the National Reverse Mortgage Lenders Association. And the number of lenders that originated the loans grew 76.5 percent.
The St. Louis County Board of Commissioners is expected to pass a final 2009 tax levy increase of 4.41 percent at Tuesday's board meeting in Duluth.
That levy hike is down a bit from the 4.88 percent the board set in September.
Minnesota residents now have access to $10 million for micro-energy and conservation home improvement loans to save on energy costs under a new program approved by the 2008 Minnesota Legislature and Gov. Tim Pawlenty.
