Judy Gibbs trains people to look for signs of invading tree pests like gypsy moths, but she hoped she’d never have to use those skills firsthand. On Thursday in Duluth’s East Hillside neighborhood, Gibbs found Minnesota’s first confirmed gypsy moth caterpillar.
Depending on the weather, the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection Gypsy Moth effort will spray about 9,500 acres in Bayfield County and 2,800 acres in Douglas County in an effort to slow the spread of the invasive pest.
