Howie and Jessie Huber weren’t sure what to expect before the “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” episode featuring their family aired last night. Though they spent hours in front of the camera, they saw the episode for the first time Sunday night just like everyone else.
Howard “Howie” Huber began his firefighting career working with Cleveland Township Volunteer Fire Department. Four years ago he was hired by the Superior Fire Department. He was part of a team of firefighters to receive commendations in 2007 for their role in helping seven people escape from the second-floor windows of an apartment building fire that easily could have turned deadly.
A tour bus carrying “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” host Ty Pennington rolled up to the Swamp Road home of Howard and Jessica Huber. Pennington, host of the ABC-TV reality show, performed the famed “door knock” that signaled the South Range family had been chosen as the recipients of a new home, to be built in a week.
The spotlight on the South Range home to be featured on “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” just got a little brighter. The Hubers’ family home will be the two-hour season premiere on ABC-TV in September.
Thursday’s accomplishments on Howard and Jessie Huber’s new home included a completed roof and frame, electrical, mechanical and plumbing work and insulation. Cedar shingles for siding and trim were going on the house at 8 p.m., and were expected to be done by morning. Drywall also was going up.
