Duluth Mayor Don Ness sent a letter Tuesday to John Werner, chairman of the Rice Lake Township Board, advising him the city no longer wishes to continue the discussion, in light of delayed meetings and the emergence of a formal opposition to the prospect of an annexation.
I thought Duluth Mayor Don Ness’ recent decision to decline a City Council-approved $19,500 annual pay raise was one of the most refreshing and humble decisions I’ve seen made by anyone in public or private service in a very long time. It is extremely heartening in this day and age to know our mayor is not serving the city for personal gain even if the City Council probably could be justifiably reproved for not addressing the mayoral pay scale for too many years.
The Duluth Police Department wants to inform residents of a scam involving parties calling people in the Duluth area and pretending to be with the State Bank of Belle Plaine. Parties attempt to obtain and validate personal or financial information from the victims over the phone.
