Austin Shinler started running a only month ago, so on Tuesday when he ran four miles from his grandfather’s cabin near Spirit Mountain to Bardon’s Peak on West Skyline Parkway, the 16-year-old realized he didn’t have the energy to run back. His cousin, who was riding his bike with Shinler, went to get their grandfather.
The addition of an alpine coaster at Spirit Mountain further “carnivalizes” the recreation area. The new attraction is meant to give the public something to do the rest of the year when the Nordic season and winter months are over, something that would bring tax revenue to Duluth.
Spirit Mountain celebrated the grand opening of its new Timber Twister this morning. Duluth Mayor Don Ness joined Spirit Mountain officials and the general public in trying out the new Alpine Coaster, the only one of its kind in the Midwest.
