Railroad bridge south of Knife River gone 
The bridge, known for its narrow space between abutments and various graffiti over the years, will be replaced this spring. It means a detour on 61 will be in place at least through December and again when bridge and road construction begins in the spring.

The heart of the historic Whispering Pines Motel complex north of Silver Bay was badly damaged by fire Wednesday morning as firefighters from Silver Bay, Finland, Two Harbors and Schroeder responded just before 9 a.m. The fire was extinguished by 10:30 a.m.

Missing man, stepson found at Silver Bay motel
Fifty-seven-year-old Daniel Ohnstad was transported by Silver Bay Ambulance to Lake View Memorial Hospital in Two Harbors today. County and city law enforcement officers met the ambulance after the crew reported that Ohnstad had become "violent" on the transfer from the Mariner Motel.

Ric Winter of Appleton, Wis., said his brother, Douglas Winter of Milwaukee, has been missing since last week. Ric Winter believes his brother was staying at Cove Point Lodge in Beaver Bay because he was told Douglas' car was found in the lodge's parking lot with the keys in it.
