When Congress considers whether to reauthorize the Older Americans Act next year, caregivers for senior citizens in the Northland want Sen. Al Franken to know this: Many of their programs depend on volunteers, and current policies threaten to choke off the supply of people willing to donate their time.
Al Franken of Minnesota turned out to be more under-the-radar than in-your-face. He quickly blended in to the clubby institution, bonding with a conservative Republican over country music and shepherding amendments to bills as they slogged through the process.
If all Minnesota elections officials followed the lead of the state's largest counties – such as St. Louis, Hennepin and Ramsey – thousands more absentee ballots would have been counted in last November's U.S. Senate election, Norm Coleman's attorney told state Supreme Court justices this morning.
WASHINGTON — A passerby recently snapped a shot of Norm Coleman’s office in St. Paul, which, it seems, is on the market. A few days ago, Coleman’s name was removed from the door, though the Senate office designation remained.
