Shipping Traffic: In a slower year, a busier day in the harbor
In a slow year for Great Lakes shipping, today is expected to be a relatively busy day in the Twin Ports. And all of the cargo scheduled to be loaded is the major stuff from our harbor: low-sulfur coal and taconite.

Shipping Traffic: Two departures and an afternoon arrival
The James R. Barker, scheduled to depart today with coal loaded at Midwest Energy Resources in Superior, is one of 10 Great Lakes ships operated by Interlake Steamship Co. Almost all call on the Twin Ports or have in the past.

Duluth Shipping News: An occasional visitor returns
The Peter R. Cresswell is pictured approaching the lift bridge as it was departing the port in March 2008. It is expected to arrive this evening to load iron ore pellets at the CN dock in West Duluth occasional.

Duluth Shipping News: Going to the ocean
Friday was a very busy day in the port, especially if you include those boats and crews that were waiting in line to load coal. As often happens, the day after a busy day sees more departures than usual as the line got shorter and the boats loaded coal.

The big boats will be back today. In fact, this will be the best day for boat watching in a long time. Four 1,000-footers are coming here today, three for coal and one for iron ore pellets.

Duluth Shipping News: Indiana Harbor waits for coal in the St. Louis River
The Indiana Harbor arrived under the Lift Bridge on Sunday at 5:30 p.m. It went through the Duluth harbor, made a half turn by the Blatnik Bridge and backed up the St. Louis River to a position directly behind the Paul R. Tregurtha.

The cruise ship Clelia arrived at 5:30 a.m. Saturday on the second of six visits to Duluth this summer. It departed at 6:30 ap.m. Saturday.

Duluth Shipping News: Taking scrap away
In late May, the barge Pere Marquette 41 arrived at the Hallett Dock to load a cargo of taconite rock. It was the first trip to the Twin Ports for either the barge or its tug, Undaunted.
