Council vote Monday will decide fate of the zoo On Monday, the Duluth City Council is scheduled to vote on transferring management of the city-owned zoo to the Lake Superior Zoological Society. If the council votes against it, there's a good chance the zoo will close.

And there's no doubt the zoo has struggled for a few years. Its short-term future depends on the city council vote Monday, but long-term success is really up to area residents.

Norm Coleman's term as senator ended Saturday. Monday the state Canvassing Board certified results of the two-month statewide recount that put Democrat Franken on top by 225 votes, but Coleman vowed to contest that result in court during a press conference yesterday.
