Duluthian embarks on 6-week trip throughout Africa
It was only two weeks ago when Jay Cole of Duluth found out that his dream of traveling to Africa was about to become a reality. On Jan. 16, Cole received a call from a woman named Beth Grobe Magomolla, who is originally from Duluth, informing him that he was welcome to come along on a six-week journey throughout four countries in Africa.

Boys & Girls Club ‘Youth of the Year’ is 5-year member
Alex Urrutia was selected as the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Northland “Youth of the Year” at the annual competition held Jan. 26. Along with the title, Urrutia was awarded a $1,000 Home Team scholarship.

Area Little Stores fundraising for honor flights for WWII vets
Duluth-area Little Stores has kicked off a company-wide fundraising event called “Let’s Fill the Plane!” to provide seats for Northland military veterans on an Honor Flight May 15. The goal is to raise enough funds to allow at least 30 veterans to ride on the plane, at a cost of $600 per passenger.

Northland artist awaits publication of first graphic novel
When Donny Frank Morris was 12 years old, his mother brought home an X-Men comic book for him. Morris sat on the sofa in his family’s home until he had read the book straight through, and even though it was the first comic book he had ever gotten, he was hooked from that point on.
