Reader’s view: Clean up downtown by ending the freebies
Has it ever occurred to anyone what the real problem is in downtown Duluth? It is addiction. Not the taxpaying, law-abiding store owner. I’ve seen people urinate and drink on First Street, but nobody complains or makes the liquor store owner or the casino hire a couple of officers to stand around out front. Begging, dope, booze and crime are acceptable one block away, it seems. I think it’s good to have the problem out in the open and away from kids. The users will get their fix anyway.By Larry Anderson , May 12, 2013
