Ask a trooper: Kids not required to be in back seat, but it is safer PressPass

Q: I have questions regarding seat belts and infant seats. If a person only has a single cab pickup, is it legal to put an infant seat in the front seat? And what about collector/antique cars that do not have seat belts or only a lap belt? Also, I have friends who will get in the car, put on the seat belt, then pull the shoulder harness part down so their clothing is not wrinkled. I would like to know the rules on these questions.

Ask a trooper: Traffic laws apply to bicycle riders PressPass

Q: I see more people riding bicycles on the roads and they rarely stop at stop signs or stop lights. Would you review the laws that are required of bicycle riders on our roads and the requirements of drivers when they pass bicycle riders?

John Rosemond: Children, not adults, are responsible for their behavior

One of the defining features of today’s parenting mindset is guilt. Mothers seem to be especially susceptible to this psychological virus — today’s moms, that is.

Ask a trooper: Right-of-way goes to the right PressPass

I have been trying to find out what the traffic laws are regarding the right of way in residential uncontrolled intersections. I have seen so many people driving so fast through these intersections, not even slowing down, not looking and assuming that because there are no signs that they have the right of way. I was taught that if you arrived at an uncontrolled intersection before another vehicle, that you have the right of way, even if you are making a turn. I have been honked at by cars that were a half a block away when I was turning right, and they came up behind me after my turn, having to apply their brakes because they were going 40 mph and then honking as though they had the right of way. What are the specific laws here?
