Jan. 21 marked the second anniversary of the Supreme Court’s “Citizens United” decision, which effectively cleared the way for unlimited corporate contributions to election campaigns. In this one 5-4 decision, the Supreme Court reversed more than a century of legal precedent and handed elections over to the boardrooms of corporations. The effect was immediate: The fall 2010 midterm elections were distorted by a tsunami of corporate cash and resulted in the election of a rabidly, unabashedly, pro-corporate Republican Congress.
