‘Finally Fridays’ offers a way to network with businesses
Networking is one of the benefits of belonging to the Duluth Area Chamber of Commerce. On the first Fridays of every month, those with the fortitude get up early and exchange business cards and pleasantries (and sometimes a business lead) with fellow professionals and businesspeople before a day of work.

Duluth cartoonist and author seeks to entertain
Chris Monroe worked around tools all day long while she was employed at Marshall Hardware in Lakeside several years ago. Using her artistic abilities, Monroe crafted a children’s book in her head about a monkey that was handy and could fix just about anything. Monroe’s son, Mickey, who was 14 years old at the time, helped her create a character and craft a story.

Red Lake Nation Urban Office celebrates Christmas at the Clyde
The Red Lake Nation Urban Office in Duluth sponsored a Christmas party on Saturday, Dec. 17 at the Clyde Iron Works. It was a time for people to gather with friends, listen to music and drumming and eat good food. Floyd “Buck” Jourdain, the tribal chairman of the Red Lake Nation was the featured speaker at the party. About 450 people attended the event. The Band currently has 11,000 members with 300 living in and around the Duluth area. Roving photographer Ivy Vainio was in attendance. Here are some of the photos she shared with the Budgeteer.

Rose hips still present on December days
Though we’ve had some cold during the first half of December, the little amount of precipitation continues. The small snow cover, about only one inch in most places, has been dry and translates into just a fraction of an inch of moisture.
