The Duluth City Council already had approved spending up to $700,000 on the Lakewalk extension but will be asked to approve an additional $150,000 in bond funding Monday. Councilors also received a new bonding request for $875,000 to help fund the first phase of what will become the Cross-City Trail.
Work is proceeding on road projects in the Lester Park area of eastern Duluth, with the Lester River bridge re-opening to traffic over Labor Day weekend. Nearby, city crews also are working on Seven Bridges Road, rebuilding and ditching the road in preparation for new culverts and a fresh paving in the next few weeks.
Another accident occurred Sunday at a section of Amity Creek known locally as “the Deeps.” At about 12:15 p.m. authorities were notified that a young man had hit his head on a rock while jumping into the water at the popular Lester Park swimming hole.
