On a recent Sunday I had to pay $500 to thaw out water pipes that were not on my property but under the street and owned by the city of Hermantown. When I called the city, it was made clear the pipes were my responsibility, and I was given a few numbers to call for a private contractor.
Bruce Plante finally got his wish. For so long a critic of private schools participating in the Minnesota Class A high school boys hockey tournament, Plante’s Hermantown Hawks opposed a fellow public school in Saturday’s championship game at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. The result was largely the same.
A disastrous second period leaves the Hermantown Hawks in a massive hole this afternoon at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, where the Hawks trail East Grand Forks 5-1 in the Class A title game of the Minnesota high school boys hockey tournament.

ST. PAUL — Hermantown defeated first-time state participant Luverne 6-3 in the quarterfinals of the Minnesota Class A high school boys hockey tournament Wednesday at the Xcel Energy Center. The Hawks advance to the semifinals, where they will face No. 3 New Prague at 11 a.m. Friday.
