You feel worse about ripping some films than others. If it’s exploitative dreck or cynical torture porn or a brainless sequel, you just fire away, grateful for the opportunity to vent and to warn movie-lovers to stay away. This is not the case with “Son of God.”
A Tuesday story about the sentencing of Bayfield woman Chelsea Cadotte (“Mom gets prison for girl’s death in crash,” Page A1) misstated the custody status of a child. Carter Gordon is in the custody of his grandmother, Trina Gordon.
Katherine A. Harvey received the Prince Street Scholarship from the University of Rochester (N.Y.). The name of the university was incorrect in Sunday’s Scrapbook section “Faces, Learning notes,” (Feb. 16, Page F5).
There was a concise 11-hyphenated-word-sentence describing “Private Eyes” that appeared in the News Tribune’s Wave on Thursday. While clever and cute, it did, for my money, constitute too much information. It did not ruin the play that opened Thursday night at the Underground, but it did turn what should have been a thrilling fill-in-the-blank experience into a less exciting multiple-choice question. Consequently, I will not be compounding the damage by giving too much away in this review.
Whether it’s Robert De Niro or Charlize Theron packing on the pounds (and winning Oscars) for “Raging Bull” and “Monster,” respectively, or Christian Bale appearing so emaciated in “The Machinist” you wondered if he risked his health for his art, there’s something fascinating but also almost grotesque about actors who undergo radical physical transformations in the name of authenticity.
