Duluth East High School students arrived at school Friday morning and confronted a scene of graffiti, toilet paper and maintenance crews washing massive amounts of egg off their three-story glass facade.
As part of the Duluth East “Hound Pack,” junior Kat LaFleur spent some of her first day at the school helping freshmen learn the ropes. But the former Central student also was finding her own way on Thursday.
Duluth East fans have a history of chanting “That’s another East first down,” whenever their team moves the chains. That chant was absent for most of the Greyhounds’ opener as they suffered a 48-13 loss to fellow Class AAAAA opponent St. Francis on Friday.
Loretta Peterson fully expected some annoyances and inconveniences would accompany the construction of a new eastern high school next door to her home in Duluth, but she hadn’t anticipated just how disruptive the project would be. Last Saturday, she awoke to the beeping and banging sounds of machinery in action at the former Ordean Middle School.
