Workers with Tamarack Materials Northland Inc. lower sheets of dry wall into place, so they can be moved into the Great Lakes Aquarium on Monday afternoon to begin construction of the new Discovery Center, a multi-use classroom and meeting space. The classroom will be built in the former cafeteria and kitchen area on the second floor.
A new gas station in Duluth is offering an unlimited supply of gasoline at the lowest price in town. The Hudson Oil Co. opened Jan. 15 and is selling regular for 38.9 cents a gallon and premium at 42.9.
The Great Lakes Aquarium will host an open house for its annual “Images from the John Beargrease Sled Dog Race” display. The event runs 2-5 p.m. Saturday, the day before the race kicks off at Duluth East High School.
UPDATE: The ski hill and snowboard slopes are open at Spirit Mountain, but the Adventure Park and snow tubing hill are closed. Spirit Mountain will close at 5 p.m. today, Tuesday and Wednesday because of the wind chill.
Frigid conditions have prompted closures Sunday at Duluth's Spirit Mountain ski area and the Bayfront skating rink. The Bentleyville Tour of Lights display at Bayfront also will be closed on Sunday evening.
