Best friends since high school, Pat Munger Lehr, Betty Myhrman Lahti, Shirley Smith Kilgore, Claudia Christianson Nimrichter, Karen Johnson Somrock, Wanda Bussa and Joan Mitchell Asperheim recently gathered in Duluth to celebrate their collective 75th birthday.
Eden Prairie coach Lee Smith said his players were prepared to turn Saturday’s contest against Hermantown into a game of boot hockey, if necessary, just to make sure bad weather didn’t force it indoors.
At the high school level, there will be a reduction in the number of students participating in varsity sports when three schools become two. While the teams should be stronger and more competitive, some athletes will fall by the wayside due to cuts.
It’s not often that students from East cheer on students at Central or Denfeld, but tonight students from the three schools will set aside their differences and showcase what makes them the same: They are all Duluth students, and they’ve all got talent.

Hours: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday through Feb. 20.
