Despite not being able to put the puck past Surrey Eagles goaltender Michael Santaguida in a 5-0 loss Wednesday, the Minnesota Wilderness secured a berth in the Royal Bank Cup Canadian national Junior A tournament semifinals at Summerside, Prince Edward Island.
HOCKEY: Captain Mike Dietrich of South Hampton, N.J., had a goal and three assists Tuesday afternoon as the Minnesota Wilderness of Cloquet defeated the Truro Bearcats of Nova Scotia, 5-3, during round-robin play in Canada’s Royal Bank Cup in Summerside, Prince Edward Island.
NHL: Joanne Boogaard watched her son, Derek, duke it out on the ice with other NHL tough guys for six seasons as one of the most feared enforcers in the game, a 6-foot-7 brawler who was not there to skate or score, but to defend his teammates when it was called for.
Former Minnesota Wild forward Derek Boogaard, who was found dead on May 13, 2011, at age 28, was posthumously diagnosed with chronic traumatic encephalopathy, a degenerative brain ailment that can be caused by repeated blows to the head, according to the 55-page lawsuit filed in Cook County Circuit Court late Friday.
HOCKEY: A four-goal third period, including two just eight seconds apart, lifted the No. 1-ranked Brooks (Alberta) Bandits to a 6-3 win over the No. 2 Minnesota Wilderness of Cloquet on Sunday in round-robin play at Canada’s Royal Bank Cup in Summerside, Prince Edward Island.
