Duluth man and partner win state NetRiders Skills Challenge
Dan Madson of Duluth, along with his partner Mark Thompson of Grove City, Minn., won the state-level Cisco Networking Academy NetRiders Skills Challenge, an interactive contest designed by the Cisco Networking Academy to give technical education students the opportunity to showcase their information technology and networking skills and to recognize excellence among Networking Academy students.

Rotary donates to Program of Promise
Jim Schwartz, vice chairman of the Duluth Rotary Club 25 Grants Committee, presented a $3,500 donation to Theresa Bobula of Program of Promise. The donation will aid the organization in serving high-risk and disadvantaged youth by assuring access to educational opportunities, skills development and employment.

Student Rotarians named
Marissa Foley (left) and Emma Radtke, seniors at Superior High School, were selected as Student Rotarian for the month of December by the Superior Rotary Club. Both students are members of the National Honor Society and participate in the Superior-Douglas County Chamber of Commerce Youth Leadership Program.

ICO coloring contest winners announced
Coloring contest winners were announced for the ICO and Minnesota Ballet’s grand prize ticket giveaway for the opening performance of the Nutcracker. The prize package included a backstage tour, autographed cast poster and reserved seating for four.

Central grad receives white coat
Megan Vorass received her white coat during an Oct. 3 ceremony at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Vorass completed a two-year master’s degree in biomedical sciences there in July.

American Indian culture shared at Asbury’s Advent Tea
Sharing our stories and cultures during the Advent Season is of importance to all of us. Crystal McGraw, a member of the Dakota Nation and a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, shared her story at the 13th annual Advent Tea on Dec. 1.

Sound of Strings performs
The Sound of Strings Ensemble, under the direction of Michelle Gribbon, with students from Woodland Middle School, Marshall and East High School, performed two songs on the “Christmas on the Lake” CD, which is being sold to raise money for the Northland Foundation, a charity for terminally ill children and their families.
