John Deere X500 donated Fred Shipley of Esko is a neighbor to North Country RIDE. This fall, Shipley purchased and then donated a new John Deere X500 to the Esko-based organization that offers therapeutic horseback riding for people with physical and developmental disabilities.

Band festival The University of Wisconsin-Superior held the annual Tri-State Honor Bands Festival Oct. 15 and more than 130 honor band students spent the day working with guest musicians and university faculty, including Timothy Smith, retired conductor of the Marine Band, and Pamela Bowen Bustos, director of bands at UWS.

Class visits fire station Lakeview Christian Academy’s kindergarten teacher Diane Goldberg and her students spent time learning about the fire department during a recent field trip to Duluth’s central fire station. The kids enjoyed seeing the firefighters’ equipment and learning about the many tasks the fire department performs.

Northern Trends sponsors Salvation Army collection

Northern Trends sponsors Salvation Army collection Northern Trends Building and Design partnered with its clients for the third year and collected more than $1,400 worth of merchandise for the Salvation Army. A variety of merchandise was collected this year, but the highlight was two bicycles. The goal again this year was $1,000.
