Reader's view: Tebow’s God is a caring multitasker for good
The writer of the Jan. 22 letter, “God has more important work than helping Tebow win games,” claimed to “have faith, too, just like (Denver Broncos quarterback Tim) Tebow. But it’s private, just between God and (him).”By Randall Muench , February 08, 2012
Reader's view: Un-Fair billboards describe human nature
I am a white woman in my 60s working in Duluth. I am not offended by the anti-racism billboards. I understand them to mean that when people spend most of their time with people who look just like them they have a more difficult time understanding people who look different. Perhaps the billboards should have been worded like that.By Mary Brill , February 08, 2012
Reader's view: Gingrich blames media for asking tough question
During one of the Republican presidential debates, Newt Gingrich responded to a CNN moderator’s question about his ex-wife Marianne’s recent public allegation about his adulterous activity by slamming and denigrating the liberal media.By Jim Waldo , February 08, 2012
Reader's view: Bus driver deserves his job back, not another trial
So we’re debating whether to retry Jimmy James (“Prosecutor mulls whether to retry Two Harbors bus driver,” Jan. 10). Why? We in this community already have lynched him in all but actual fact. He lost his job after more than 30 faithful years, and he lost his reputation and probably all his money. All because of accusations of children interviewed at First Witness Child Abuse Resource Center in Duluth.

Reader's view: Anzelc jump-starts needed review of IRRRB projects
Rep. Tom Anzelc can be highly commended for his efforts to bring transparency to the use of public money by the Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board (“Anzelc sponsors bill to repeal IRRRB privacy protections,” Jan. 24).By John Bray , February 01, 2012
Reader's view: Anzelc fights for needed transparency at IRRRB
On the front page of the News Tribune’s Jan. 24 “Local News” section a headline proclaimed, “Anzelc sponsors bill to repeal IRRRB privacy protections.” The article described Rep. Tom Anzelc’s effort to repeal a recently enacted law that blocks public access to the Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board’s financial information collected on recipients of IRRRB funding.By Rod Otterness , January 31, 2012
Reader's view: Conservatives should reduce their public retirement take
During this season of Republican primaries, several things stick out about conservatives that seem obviously inconsistent. It seems that the ones who are against big government and social-entitlement programs, and who want to balance the budget, are often career politicians, double- and triple-dipping into public and private pension funds, as well as cashing in on their government experience and becoming congressional lobbyists or venture capitalists, or charging exorbitant fees for public speaking.By Mark S. Roalson , January 31, 2012
Reader's view: School district needs to articulate Congdon problems
We have read about how vital the Congdon skating rinks are to our community (“Congdon Park neighbors rally to save rinks,” Jan. 17). How could anyone disagree? I am sure the School Board wants to keep them, too.

Reader's view: Joni Mitchell would save Congdon ice rinks
People making the decisions about the future of the Congdon Park ice rinks may want to listen to the chorus from “Big Yellow Taxi,” as sung by Joni Mitchell: “Don’t it always seem to go; that you don’t know what you’ve got ’til it’s gone; they paved paradise and put in a parking lot.”

Reader's view: Krause acted responsibly in opposing aquarium bailout
I found it deplorable that the News Tribune chose to slam City Councilor Garry Krause for his vote against the $129,000 utility bailout for the Great Lakes Aquarium (Our View: “Aquarium: Still moving ahead”). Krause, like many other fiscally responsible Duluthians, obviously doesn’t believe in throwing good money after bad. Perhaps he thought the money would be better spent fixing our failing city wastewater system or on our pothole-stricken roadways.By Chris Lindberg , January 25, 2012
Reader's view: Growth of solar energy boosts Iron Range
The growth and development of one of Minnesota’s newest industries, solar energy, are closely linked to one of Minnesota’s oldest: mining. I applaud Silicon Energy’s expansion in Mountain Iron (“Solar energy finds a home on Iron Range,” Jan. 12), a development that continues to spur economic progress on the Iron Range.

Reader's view: Congdon rinks help kids stay active and fit
In a day when kids spend an unhealthy amount of time playing video games or watching television, we need the ice rinks at Congdon Park Elementary (“School Board delays vote on Congdon Park plans,” Jan. 18).By Dar Dunbar , January 24, 2012
Reader's view: Prescription drug shortages threaten lives and research
In 2011 alone there were more than 200 reported prescription drug shortages. If the current trend continues, it is estimated that more than 300 drugs will be in short supply by the end of 2012.By Jill Thompson , January 18, 2012
Reader's view: School Board proves its ignorance through action
First, the Duluth School Board brings in a questionable superintendent. Then a multimillion-dollar Red Plan goes through without any vote from the public.
By Jim Mattson , January 18, 2012
Reader's view: Research supports benefit of rinks near Congdon school
I read with considerable interest the Dec. 8 article about Congdon Park hockey and how some people felt the recreational facility was not integral to the community. (“Final part of Duluth school district’s Red Plan hits snag”).
