A group called Dog Lovers 4 Safe Trapping MN was formed in May 2012 to lobby for changes in trapping regulations to protect dogs from being injured. New, more restrictive, regulations for body-gripping traps went into effect last fall, but group members say those regulations don’t go far enough.

Three people escaped from a garage fire that extended into a home in Scanlon early Thursday, but the home and garage are probably a total loss and a family pet died, Cloquet Area Fire District Chief Kevin Schroeder said. He estimated damages at between $225,000 and $250,000.
