I grew up on the Leech Lake Reservation but presently live in Duluth. I am studying Ojibwe language and culture and elementary education at the College of St. Scholastica. The issue I wish to discuss is the Minnesota wolf hunt.

Our six boys pay tribute to their fallen brother, Zachary Michael Gamache, known as No. 5. The Gamache boys are known by their birth order number. What started out to be just a way to keep track of the boys has turned out to be a family “crest” of sorts. In the photo are Chris, No. 1; Jason, No. 2; Ben, No. 3; Nate, No. 4; Dusty, No. 6; and their father, Jim. The boys, who had their tattoos done at the Ink Spot in Carlton, added the crosshairs symbol to reflect their love of hunting and their business.
