In the wake of a diminished steelhead run on Wisconsin’s Brule River, fisheries officials want to update the state’s “long-overdue” Lake Superior management plan, said Paul Piszczek, Department of Natural Resources fisheries biologist in Superior. Such a revised plan might recommend stocking steelhead in the Brule, Pisczcek said, but it would have to come at the expense of stocking elsewhere in the state.

As of late Wednesday, 24 moose had been registered in Minnesota’s 2012 moose hunt, said Dave Pauly, Northeastern Minnesota moose project field biologist at Tower for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. Tissue and blood samples are being collected from all moose as part of a DNR moose study with other partners. Most of those samples will be analyzed at the Veterinary Diagnostic Lab at the University of Minnesota.
