Attorney general's response: Give me authority to prosecute synthetic drugs
Synthetic drug abuse is deadly. Last June, an 18-year-old from Grand Forks, N.D., and a 17-year-old from Park Rapids, Minn., died from synthetic drugs. The drugs were made by a self-described “hobby chemist” who bought the synthetic drugs online from China and other countries. He sold the drugs to a dozen people from Grand Forks, who distributed them to friends.

Reader’s view: Clean up downtown by ending the freebies
Has it ever occurred to anyone what the real problem is in downtown Duluth? It is addiction. Not the taxpaying, law-abiding store owner. I’ve seen people urinate and drink on First Street, but nobody complains or makes the liquor store owner or the casino hire a couple of officers to stand around out front. Begging, dope, booze and crime are acceptable one block away, it seems. I think it’s good to have the problem out in the open and away from kids. The users will get their fix anyway.
