Local view: Voter ID amendment comes with real costs
The Un-Fair Campaign is more than just a set of billboards. We challenge ourselves to ask, “What are the racial injustices we see? What are we doing about it?” Oftentimes we find, as Oscar Wilde put it, “The truth is rarely pure and never simple.”

Reader’s view: There’s no reason for insurance to cover birth control
When I heard the Obama administration was working to provide a national health-care program, I was hopeful yet apprehensive. I was hopeful that something realistic could be accomplished but apprehensive about content and cost. Some of the requirements seem logical and practical, and I can see how they’d benefit someone with health issues. However, the requirement that all providers of health insurance (except for those exempt from the act) must offer birth-control coverage for female employees doesn’t make sense.

Reader's view: Democrats are responsible for our debt and malaise
Vice President Joe Biden voted for both wars. He denied it. Medicare may be bankrupt in 10 years. Rick Nolan’s head-in-the-sand belief is there’s plenty of time to fix it.

Signers are at the mercy of Norquist and his anti-tax pladge
It all started with an innocuous little bell curve. The extant tax rate was a dot on that curve. According to its designer, Arthur Laffer, if the dot was on the right side of the peak and taxes are lowered, tax revenue would increase; if it was on the other, revenue would decrease.
