Reader's view: Facts contradict Cravaack on Medicare and health-care law
I am enrolled in the Medicare program. Passage of the Affordable Health Care Act (AHA or, derisively, “Obamacare”) stabilized my monthly premiums and provided me with increased benefits. I now have access to an annual “wellness exam” which includes covered screening procedures. The focus is on preventive medicine, and I am pleased with what has been achieved.

Reader's view: Tea Party members doing much for flood relief
Some federal programs, like disaster relief, are worthwhile. Other federal programs, like crony capitalism (think Solyndra and auto-company bailouts), are a waste.

Our view: Creepy miles-traveled tax can be left at the roadside
Wasn’t this vehicle-miles-traveled tax idea left at the roadside where it belongs some three years ago? That’s about when the pricey proposal first was made to not only create an unwelcome new tax but to make federal law a troubling level of government intrusion.

Reader's View: Tea Party silent on helping people after recent storms
U.S. Rep. Chip Cravaack visited Duluth in the wake of our unprecedented storms and flooding. I found it incredibly ironic that he was exploring ways for our beloved city to receive federal assistance when he and his fellow Tea Party members continually rail against the growth and cost of federal government.

Reader's view: Cravaack’s vote helps support, protect women

Reader's view: After a year, time for another Cravaack town hall
On June 15, U.S. Rep. Chip Cravaack promised to hold a “special” town-hall meeting in Duluth. I hope this is true, as he hasn’t held a public town hall in the district’s largest city since last summer, and that was at the last minute in the middle of the day, which made it hard for many to attend.

Reader's View: Cravaack land-swap bill could keep programs in schools
In the past couple of years there has been much discussion about the Red Plan, the cost of it and what it would or would not do for the students of Duluth. I find it interesting that during these discussions we never heard much about school trust fund lands, which were established in 1858 so revenue from them could benefit the public school systems of the state (MN Statue 127A.31).
