Ojibwe elders inspire art, book
Sara Balbin opened her first art studio in Old Hayward in the early 1970s in the center of a Lac Courte Oreilles community. There was a group of houses off her front yard and twice-weekly powwows were held about 50 feet from her back door. To the left was the Namekegon River and just over the highway was a traditional Ojibwe burial ground.

Reader's view: Campaign promotes the hate of white people
I don’t get the point of the Un-Fair Campaign. Is it saying white people don’t understand how it feels to be discriminated against? That just isn’t true, especially for gay whites, fat whites and other whites. How about a white male who applies at the same time as a Native American at the casino and who loses out on the job because the casino has Native hiring preferences?

Reader's view: Potholes highlight unfairness of casino dispute
Clank! Clunk! Bump! Pow! Yow, potholes! Driving toward home via Woodland Avenue and Pleasant View Road, I couldn’t help but think of Steve Lindstrom’s May 31 editorial cartoon in the News Tribune and the unfairness of it all when it comes to the dispute between the city of Duluth and the Fond du Lac Band of Chippewa when it comes to sharing Fond-du-Luth Casino revenues.
