A judge's view: Fines are based on more than crimes
It was a recently published short letter to the editor in the News Tribune that I read with interest. The writer, in essence, did not understand how a person convicted of a felony could be ordered to pay a $50 fine while someone with a misdemeanor could be sentenced to a higher fine.
