Reader’s view: Snow is deep enough to be affecting moose
I was just curious whether DNR veterinarian Erika Butler or Grand Portage Band Biology and Environment Director Seth Moore have been in the woods recently? Or have they been calling in their reports from the Bahamas? They said in the March 18 News Tribune story, “Wolves taking toll on Minnesota moose,” that below-average snowfall and normal temperatures were not affecting moose and deer.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources reminds ice anglers in Northeastern Minnesota of ice shelter removal dates on lakes north of U.S. Highway 2. Dark houses, fish houses and portable shelters must be off the ice of inland lakes no later than midnight on Monday, March 18. For Minnesota-Canada border waters, the deadline for removal is March 31. Anglers are advised to remove shelters earlier if ice conditions warrant.
