Reader's view: American government has become dysfunctional
Recent events — such as the defeat of a more-comprehensive background check on firearm sales, budget debates and the overall inability of Congress to accomplish the most menial tasks — have led me to believe our political system has become completely dysfunctional with very little hope of improvement. Between the House of Representative’s ever-increasing use of gerrymandering to ensure party control and the Senate’s unbelievable increased threat of a filibuster by the minority, we no longer have a democracy in the true sense of the word.
