Reader's view: Charges against Carlton County attorney are inadequate
At first glance, the July 19 story about Carlton County Attorney Thom Pertler’s arrest for suspicion of drunken driving made it sound as though Pertler was really in trouble (“Pertler faces 7 charges in DWI case”). He is, after all, charged with seven crimes: “refusal to submit to a chemical test, fourth-degree driving while impaired, speeding, driving over the center line, failure to signal, possession of an open bottle and no proof of insurance.” Certainly, these charges are not trivial.
