Reader's view: Evangelists’ message is reason Bentleyville exists
The irony of Bentleyville not wanting people to evangelize within its complex cannot be ignored (“Free speech rights upheld in Bentleyville court ruling,” Dec. 15). The message these people want to convey happens to be the very reason the idea of Bentleyville exists!

Reader's view: Lennon’s message should not be misunderstood
This is in response to the May 13 letter criticizing John Lennon’s popular song, “Imagine” (Reader’s View: “Answers to ponderings of Lennon’s ‘Imagine’ ”). Lennon wouldn’t want his personal vision of a loving world to be used as a political message of “my way or the highway.” What he addressed in his song was the fear and repression that can easily be rationalized by narrow-minded religious zealots.

Our View: Tea Party message remains relevant
Four years later, the concerns of the Tea Party movement are as familiar as patriot garb at one of its rallies: Government is too big. It spends too much. Its deficits threaten to cripple our nation. Its onerous rules and regulations are holding down businesses and stomping on freedoms. And the status quo-loving politicians who run it all seem to be bought and paid for by special interests.

Reader's view: Imbalanced ‘Pocahontas’ story missed message of togetherness, depth of art
Shame on the News Tribune for the wildly imbalanced reporting on the upcoming Duluth Festival Opera production of “Pocahontas,” which is to be staged Thursday evening in Marshall School (“Critic blasts opera’s non-Indian casting,” Sept. 19). The newspaper took the personal gripe of one disaffected woman and blew it up into some kind of racial turmoil.

Local view: Court ruling sends confusing message to parents
The Supreme Court’s decision in Brown v. Entertainment Merchants Association may seem surprising in that it means the appropriateness of selling violent video games to children is not decided by parents or lawmakers but by retailers. It is less surprising in light of last year’s Supreme Court decision overturning a federal ban on video depictions of animal cruelty.
