Reader's view: Cravaack backs dirty pipeline over green alternative
I wasn’t sure whether to laugh or shout expletives at my newspaper while reading U.S. Rep. Chip Cravaack’s op-ed about the Keystone XL Pipeline (Congressman’s View: “Keystone pipeline project is good for Minnesota and for American workers,” Dec. 14).

Reader's view: Oil pipelines have been operating safely for decades
I have several thoughts regarding the Keystone XL oil pipeline. From the U.S. Department of Transportation: “The energy transportation network of the United States consists of (more than) 2.5 million miles of pipelines. That’s enough to circle the Earth about 100 times. These pipelines are operated by approximately 3,000 companies, large and small.”

Reader's view: Money over Mother Earth

Local view: Pipeline would be an environmental disaster
Over the course of two weeks this month,1,252 Americans were arrested at a sit-in in front of the White House. Among those arrested were American farmers and ranchers, top climate scientists and Canadian indigenous leaders. The arrests got only modest attention from the press, but they may have been part of the nation’s largest act of environmental civil disobedience in decades.
