Ojibwe elders inspire art, book
Sara Balbin opened her first art studio in Old Hayward in the early 1970s in the center of a Lac Courte Oreilles community. There was a group of houses off her front yard and twice-weekly powwows were held about 50 feet from her back door. To the left was the Namekegon River and just over the highway was a traditional Ojibwe burial ground.
