Jake Johnson of Superior caught this 31-inch walleye from the Wisconsin waters of Lake Superior on May 6 near the Superior entry to the Duluth-Superior harbor. Jake was fishing with his friend Alex Olson of Superior. Jake kept the fish to have it mounted.

  • Josh Tiegen of Iron River caught and released this 52-inch muskie Aug. 3 while fishing with his dad on the St. Louis River. Earlier this summer, Josh caught and released a 49-inch muskie while fishing the Pike Chain of Lakes near Iron River.
  • Fuzzy Bodine of Garrison, Minn., caught and released this 49-inch muskie July 19 on the St. Louis River. He and Duluth's Wayne Heyesen were fishing with guide Dustin Carlson of Duluth.

  • Kyle Kulseth of Minneapolis caught and released this 30-inch walleye on Lake of the Woods on July 26.
  • Jon Downing of Duluth caught and released this 29-inch walleye on Lake of the Woods July 26.
  • Jamey Reno of Esko holds the 34-pound lake trout caught by his dad, Steve Reno of Esko, while fishing near Isle Royale in Lake Superior aboard Paul Lind's boat, the Tripplelindy. The group landed 81 fish in three and a half days at Isle Royale. Steve will have the fish mounted. It was 43 inches long.
  • Dylan Bowman, 5, of Cloquet caught this 14-inch largemouth bass while fishing with his grandpa, Hank Peters of Superior, on Crystal Lake near Wascott on Aug. 9.
  • Christian von Goertz of Two Harbors holds a 14-pound, 4-ounce lake trout he caught while fishing with his dad, Paul von Goertz off Larsmont in Lake Superior on Aug. 30. Looking on is Christian's brother, Paul R. von Goertz. The fish was 33 inches long.
  • The Comstock clan caught these lake trout Sept. 3 on Lake Superior. From left are Christian Comstock, 11; Alexander Comstock, 14; dad Keith Comstock; and Michael Comstock, 9. They were fishing out of Knife River with Capt. Dick Slotness. The largest fish was 12 pounds.

  • Jesse Nelson of Dallas caught and released this 49-inch muskie Aug. 18 on the St. Louis River. He was fishing with his mother, Jane L. Nelson, of Solon Springs, who netted the fish.
  • Sam Nord, 15, caught this 16-inch crappie on Island Lake on Aug. 23.
  • Marilyn Bushnell of Proctor caught this northern pike on Labor Day on Rice Lake near Duluth. She caught two big northerns that day, one 37 inches and one 30 1/2 inches.
  • Grant Ekstrom, 12, of Barrington, Ill., caught this 41-inch northern pike in Ashigan Lake in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.
  • Theresa Mattson of Duluth caught this 43-inch lake trout at Isle Royale on Lake Superior. Her husband, Larry, released it.
  • Chris Busche, who is 90, holds a 47-inch muskie he caught Sept. 21 on the St. Louis River. He was fishing with his son, Bob Busche of Duluth.
  • Jake Edwards, 6, holds a 31-inch northern pike that he caught off his grandparents' dock on Lake Elora in a rather unusual way. He had gotten bored while fishing and passed his rod to his grandmother, Marlene "Bunny" Sorenson. Grandma Bunny caught a small sunfish and went to find her husband, Kim, to have him remove the fish. But she forgot to tell him. Grandpa Kim discovered the rod and fish somewhat later and called Jake to reel in the fish. By now, the northern had eaten the sunfish. Jake reeled in the northern and released it.
  • Bob Bronke of Chicago and Dustin Carlson of Duluth hold a 50-inch, 40-pound muskie that Bronke caught while being guided by Carlson on Lake Vermilion the weekend of Oct. 17-18.
  • Chris Edquist of Superior caught this 51 3/4-inch muskie on the St. Louis River on Saturday, opening day of Minnesota's firearms deer season.
