Keith Gilbertson, 47, of Superior, Wis., passed away Saturday evening, May 21, 2005 at his home in Superior. Keith Allen Gilbertson was born on Jan. 10, 1958 in Superior, Wis., to Larry and Eileen Gilbertson. He graduated from Superior Senior High School in 1976. He attended the College of St. Scholastica where he continued his love for hockey and was NAIA All American his senior year in 1979-80. After graduating from St. Scholastica with a degree in business management, he went on to play two years of professional hockey in Lanskrona, Sweden. Keith most recently was an instructor at Lake Superior College where he taught construction to inmates at the Federal Prison in Hermantown. You would often find Keith helping numerous friends with building projects. On Sept. 19, 1987 Keith married Sheila Soland in Superior. Keith was member of Acacia-Itasca Masonic Lodge 329. He was a member of the Nemadji Men's Club. He continued his love for hockey by coaching and sharing his talents with many Superior youth at the Superior Area Hockey Association. He continued to play as an adult on local men's hockey teams. His skating talents were not confined only to the hockey rink as he performed with his daughter, Heather, during annual figure skating shows. Keith was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. One of his most favorite things to do would be to spend time at the hunting shack with his son, Grant, his family and friends. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Keith is survived by his wife, Sheila Gilbertson of Lake Nebagamon; daughter, Heather; son, Grant; parents, Larry and Eileen Gilbertson of Superior; sister, Brenda (Rick) Eisenmann of Superior; brothers, Rick (Debra) Gilbertson of Superior, Thomas (Cindy) Gilbertson of Superior, Brad (Joanne) of Superior, Jeffrey Gilbertson of Plymouth, Wis., Jerry Gilbertson of Sheboygan, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews. FUNERAL SERVICE:12 p.m. Thursday, May 26, 2005, in Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Superior with a visitation from 10 a.m. to noon, prior to the service. Burial will be held at Greenwood Cemetery following the service. Pallbearers will be his sister and brothers. Honorary pallbearers will be Rick Eisenmann, Chris Scharte, Rich Snyder, Stuart Soland, Gary Kucharyski, and Steve Sorensen. A reception will follow at the Superior Elks Lodge. If desired, memorial donations should be sent to Superior Area Hockey Association at 1015 Oakes Ave., Superior, WI 54880. Arrangements by Downs Funeral Home.
