Dr. Peter Linner Boman, 70, passed away unexpectedly in his home on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008.
He was born in Duluth on Feb. 7, 1938 to Dr. Paul and Annette (Linner) Boman.
He was a graduate of East High School. Following High School, he completed his undergraduate at Gustavus Adolphus College; attended the University of South Dakota Medical School, and earned his Medical Degree from the University of Minnesota - Mpls. School of Medicine. Dr. Peter Boman performed his residency at Rochester Mayo. Dr. Boman's true passion was medicine. He began his full medical practice in Duluth in 1970 as an Orthopedic Surgeon, serving thousands of patients, until his retirement in 1995.
Dr. Peter served on many medical boards including; the Board of Directors for the Duluth Clinic, was past president of the Duluth Clinic, past president of the board for the Benedictine Health Systems and was the former Chief of Staff at St. Mary's Hospital. Dr. Boman was currently serving on the board of Directors for the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation since 1999. He was also a member of the Kitchi Gammi Club.
In 1978, he married Susan Brown and together they raised two children.
Peter also served his country with the 148th Air National Guard, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. He served as a Medical Services Officer and was active in the Military Surgeons Association
Following retirement from his medical practice, Peter created P.L.B.L.L.C. a Real Estate Development Company. His proudest achievement was the redevelopment of the Mt. Royal Shopping Center.
Peter was also a man of faith; he was an active member of Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd. He served on numerous boards, was past president of the church counsel, greeter, liturgist, and communion server. Peter also served on the Board of Directors for Luther Seminary, St. Paul from 1984-1995, was a trustee from 1996-2007, and was currently on the investment committee.
Peter loved spending time at his beloved Lake Owen. He enjoyed bird hunting and was a member of Duck's Unlimited. He had many interests which included collecting classic cars. He also enjoyed traveling and especially time in Kapalua, Maui, Hawaii
He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Paul; and special aunt, Ruth Linner.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Susan; four children, Peter (Beth) Boman of St. Paul; Becca (Mark) Stern of Hermantown; Ryan (Amy) Boman and Chris Boman all of Duluth; his brother; Tom (Mary) Boman of Duluth; four grandchildren, Jon and Laurel Boman and Nikki and Logan Stern; and former wife, Judy Giese of Duluth.
VISITATION: 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday in Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, and will continue from 11 a.m. until the Noon Celebration of Life Monday, Nov. 17, 2008. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery with Military Honors. Memorials are preferred to the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation, P.L.B. Scholarship Fund. 324 West Superior Street. I remember Pete as a classmate at East High School. He was a very special person that always had a positive attitude and was liked by all. He had a gentle smile and never a bad word for anyone. It is sad to loose a wonderful person like Pete.11/18/2008 11:03 AM
