Barry J.W. Steinman, 69 of Miami, Fla., formerly of Golden Valley and Duluth, died on Dec. 16, 2013 after a long battle with cancer.
Barry was born in Duluth.
He spent his formative years in Duluth and Golden Valley before graduating from the University of Minnesota in 1968. A theater professional and arts administrator, Barry traded the snow-bound winters of Minnesota for the perpetual summer of South Florida. During a long theatre career, he managed the Coconut Grove Playhouse, Miami-Dade County Auditorium and Division of Arts and Culture for Miami-Dade County’s Park and Recreation Department. He was founding chairman of the Theater League of South Florida and spent many years producing and directing the Key West Theatre Playwrite Festival Program in Key West, Fla.
Preceded in death by parents Bradley and Edith Steinman.
Survived by brother Duncan (Marilyn) and sister Susan Johnson; four nieces and one nephew.
CELEBRATION OF LIFE: was held Jan. 18, 2014 at the Biltmore Hotel, Coral Gables, Fla. Donations can be made to City Theatre (www.citytheatre.com) to support the Barry Steinman Memorial Theatre Management Internship.
