Barbara Beerhalter Chapman, 70, died Jan. 23, 2014 at her home in Bradenton, Fla.
She was a native of Duluth and long time Twin City resident.
She was a graduate of East High School, attended the University of Minnesota Duluth and finished her Journalism Degree at the University of Minnesota Minneapolis.
She had a remarkable career. She was Morning News Editor for WCCO Radio, Author of the book "Fitgers, the Brewery and Its People", Public Relations Director for the Minnesota AFL-CIO, Managing Editor of The St. Paul Union Advocate, and was appointed to several high level positions for the State of Minnesota including Commissioner of the Dept. of Economic Security, and Chair of the Public Utilities Commission. She also served as President of the University of Minnesota Women's Alumni Association.
Survivors include her husband, Dick Chapman (former WCCO broadcaster); sisters Joan Hatlestad of Duluth and Susan Soule of Edina; and four step children, Connie Chapman, Candace Chapman, Timothy Chapman an Michael Chapman.
