Clyde D. Atwood, 90, of Duluth, passed away on Monday, Jan. 13, 2014 in St. Luke’s Hospital from natural causes.
Clyde was born on May 27, 1923 in Poteau, Okla., to Clyde Otto and Ida (Harris) Atwood.
He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and continued his service in the Marine Reserves. Clyde retired from the college of St. Scholastica where he taught Indian Studies for many years. He was a master carpenter and was very active with volunteering and serving his community.
Clyde was a member of the Masonic Lodge 186 as well as a member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jack R. and Donald Atwood; sister Juanita Elder and son Clyde Demerle Swamp.
Clyde is survived by his beloved wife Mary; daughter Dawn (Mark) Schulze; sons, Clyde Joseph Atwood and Adam, Jeffrey and Brian Birman; dog Cyrus; grandchildren, Avery Rae Birman, Rachel and Marc Schulze; granddogs, C-Bow and Minnie and two great-grandchildren.
GATHERING OF FAMILY AND FRIENDS: 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2014 in the Fond Du Lac Reservation Community Center 1720 Big Lake Rd. Cloquet, Minn. Lunch will be served. Cremation Society of Minnesota 218-624-5200
