Lydia Ogat Makowski, 97, formerly of Jay Street, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014 in Woodland Gardens with her family by her side.
She was born Aug. 8, 1916 in Two Harbors, MN to Anton and Oline (Ericksen) Simonsen.
Lydia married Eugene “Bud” Makowski in 1940. They made their home in Duluth and were residence of Lakeside for 63 years.
Lydia was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and was active in the women’s circle and the rosary society. She moved into Woodland Gardens and became a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in 2003.
Lydia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bud in 1995; her 11 siblings and her son-in-law Tom Currier.
Survivors include her children, Cletus (Karen) Makowski of Duluth, Barbara Currier of Duluth, Susan (Tony) Rivera of Woodbury, Minn.; her grandchildren, Scott “Butch” (Leta) Currier, Eric (Govinda) Makowski, April (Wes) Salo, Angela (Richard) Naegeli and Michael (Danielle) Ness and seven great grandchildren.
VISITATION: 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014 until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. John’s Catholic Church. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Duluth. Memorials may be directed to the library at St. John’s School, 1 W Chisholm St. Duluth, MN 55803.
