Donald G. Bachel, 61, of Kinney, died Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014 at Range Fairview in Hibbing.
Donald George Bachel was born Jan. 4, 1953 in Cook Minn., to Donald and Angella (Spychalla) Bachel.
He attended and graduated from Cook High School in 1971. Don married his friend and soul mate Deb Marks on June 17, 1972. Don and Deb resided in Kinney, where they raised their daughters Karla and Kelly. In High School, Don was an Apprentice Butcher for the Big Dollar Store in Cook. In 1972, Don began working for Rhude & Fryberger Iron Ore Mining Company of Hibbing, until mining operations ceased. He then was employed for Electric Power Door of Hibbing until present time.
Beginning in his youth, Don was an avid outdoors men and hunter. This transitioned him to become a Lifetime Member of the MN Deer Hunters Assoc. For the last nine years, has held the office of President of the MDHA Sturgeon River Chapter. Don truly believed that youth should be given the opportunities to experience the outdoors as he did. His involvement with the local school archery programs and youth activities showed his passion for kids to succeed. He held membership with the NWTF Tall Timber Toms of Cook. Don also took civic duties as past fire chief and retired member of the Kinney Great Scott Fire Dept. He served the City of Kinney for over 25 plus years as a city councilmen. Don was a member of the Sacred Heart Church, Buhl and the Buhl Knights of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his parents Donald and Angella Bachel; his daughter Kelly Bachel; sisters Mary Ann Cheney-Kanian and Donna Huffman, father and mother-in-law Carl and Kay Marks; along with other extended family.
He is survived by wife Debra of Kinney; daughter Karla (Bobby) Kintner of Parkville; his hunting partners and pride and joys, grandsons Casey John Kintner and Riley Donald Kintner; aunts Gen Bodin, Rita (Herb) Cheney-Hutton, and Irene Doroff; sisters and brothers in-law; Betty and Larry Cipperly Andover, Denny and Sharon Marks Buhl, Dick and Donna Marks Side Lake, Tom and Sue Marks Eveleth, Ron Marks Britt, and John Huffman Lindstrom; all his special nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; and great great nieces and nephew; and his grand dog "Charlie".
SERVICE: 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014 in Our Lady of Sacred Heart Church in Buhl with visitation starting at 11 a.m. Fr. Method will officiate. Burial will be at Buhl Cemetery at a later date.
